Opening Weekend events are free to new students. No registration is required but many events are first come, first served.

Whether you're a commuter or a resident student, Opening Weekend is UB's way of welcoming you to our community. At these popular events, you'll meet new people and receive valuable information to help you get ready for life at UB. Plenty of volunteers will be ready to help you check-in at your residence hall and help you become familiar with campus.

When you arrive on campus, pick up an Opening Weekend Guide at your residence hall or the Student Union. It's a useful list of all the weekend's activities.

New Parent & Family Dessert Reception with UB Leadership

Enjoy some well-earned relaxation time delicious desserts while meeting UB's VIP's.

11 am   Talk with the Experts: Veteran Parent & Student Panel

Here's your chance to talk with some parents and students who've been in your shoes and are happy to share their experiences and answer questions you may have.
12:30 - 1:30 pm Transfer Meet Up
210 Student Union
Transferred to UB? Connect with other transfer students as well as UB staff. Learn how to get involved in the Transfer Peer Mentor program, a program where you can attend special Transfer Tuesday events and get paired up with a successful transfer student to ask questions. Orientation Leaders will offer tours of the north or south campus to show where your classes will be held. Light refreshments will be served and there will be prizes!
1:30 - 3 pm University Resources & Jobs Fair

Finish up your college checklist with UB representatives at our Resource Fair. Learn about student services and campus jobs.
1:30 - 3:30 pm Open House: Intercultural and Diversity Center

  Undergraduate Academies Reception

UB Undergraduate Academies invite you to meet our faculty, staff, and other incoming Undergraduate Academies students. Presenters from the Civic Engagement Academy, Global Perspectives Academy, and Research Exploration Academy will share information about programs and activities planned for the year. Enjoy light refreshments (and good conversation).
3:30 pm Opening Weekend Welcome & Interlocking UB Photo
Student Union Field (Rain Site: Center for the Arts Mainstage Theater)
Join us as the University at Buffalo welcomes the Class of 2018! Watch on a huge screen as more than 2,300 people merge to form our school's logo. Get to know University leadership and talented student performers. We will see you there!

Students: don't forget to get your blue ticket! Winners will receive an iPad, $200 in books or a Family Weekend registration (You must be present to win)!
Parents: watch from the best seats in the house, as you enjoy refreshments and a special family activity.
5 - 7 pm New Student Picnic
Baird Point (Rain site: Stadium Concourse)
Enjoy a Chicken BBQ at beautiful Baird Point. (First come, first served). Mingle with UB faculty and staff, and meet other new students. Free to all new students and their families.
6:30 pm Eclectic Improv
Baird Point (Rain Site: Student Union Theatre)
Enjoy the comedy stylings of Buffalo's premier comedy group, The Eclectic Company! The groups' quick wit and unparalleled imaginations will have you rolling in your seats!
7:30 pm Family Farewell
Take a moment to bid your family farewell, but save the date for Family Weekend, September 19-21.
7:30 pm - 1 am Club Ellicott
Richmond, Spaulding and Wilkeson
Come check out events in all the 2nd floor lounges of Richmond, Spaulding, and Wilkeson including a dance party.
8 pm Governors Backyard Block Party
Behind Governors Complex
There will be music, field games, scavenger hunt, and prizes.
9 pm Student Association Movie
Student Union Field (Rain Site: Student Union Theater)
Enjoy A Million Ways to Die in the West, a Student Association sponsored film.
10 pm Main Street in the Dark
South Campus (Outside Goodyear Hall)
10 pm - Midnight: This event will feature a DJ, free food, free glow sticks, and more!

Spend the morning participating in community service projects, meeting new people and working with local groups that make Buffalo a great place to live! Lunch provided. Space limited, so sign up early! Please wear closed-toe shoes. Check in takes place from 9 - 9:30 am, volunteering is from 10 am - 12 pm and lunch is from 12:30 - 1:30 pm in 210 Student Union.
